Dale Watson in Newland (Klaaswaal Holland, again)

Dale Watson and The Lonestars in concert at Newland in Klaaswaal
As you must have guesst by now; we are Dale Watson fans! So the 28th of october we were back in Klaaswaal at Newland to see Dale Datson preform again.
But before that we had a nice dinner in the Newland Saloon. Good food for a reasonable price and always service with a smile!
As always Gabrie and his wife are sure to make everyone feel welcome and always a kind word and helping hand for disabled guests!

Ruud Hermans Support Act

This time there was a support act. It was the Dutch country singer Ruud Hermans. He had formed a band in just two weeks as they wanted to get out a DVd that was to be recorded the 28th.
Amongsr oters playing in his band were Jacqueline van der Griend and Wim van de Vliert, both members of the band "Cash on Delivery".
It was a nice show and the band prefomed outstanding!
The Ruud Hermans fans went through the roof. For me it was another new experience as I never seen him preform before.

Dale Watson, The concert
But for us the main event was Dale Watson and de Lonestars ('05)
The first part of the show Dale preformed excelent, but as the show was registerd for a DVD he was not as wild as he normaly is :-)
He played all the song we love so much and all request songs were played.
It is amazing to see this guy play and interact wit the crowd/ The number of people he knows by name and also remembers when and were they met.
His fans are more then just fans, they are friends and treated as such.

I guess that's why an evening with Dale is so special.
This one was even more special for Dennis as he was called on the stage by Dale and was presented a beautiful guitar that Dale used to play on and had tagged with him during this tour all the way from Texas.
Dennes now is 15 years old and he first met Dale when he was just 10 years of age in 2000. He came along with his parents. Dennis kept visiting Dale's concerts ever since.
Another thing that makes these concerts so special is that eacht time a meet new people and make new friends.
Last time in Terrassa I met these wonderfull folks from Bilbao and this time this wonderful man (Geert) form Etten-Leur.We had already met at the Newland concert in August, but this time we had a better contact. I guess we will be keeping in touch.

After the show bought two of Dale's earleyer cd's. The 2004 CD 'Dreamland' and as we are getting on towards Christmas I also bought the 'Christmas Time in Texas' CD

The evening was a great succes thanks to Dale and The Lonestars, but also `cuase of the wonderful crowd and not to forget the wonderful service of that staff of Newland.
Well done Gabrie and staff of Newland.
However I hope the next time he DJ will turn down the volume a bit when after the concert people are sitting around an try and talk to eachother (specialy to Dale).
I guess it will be a long time before we will be able to see Dale back in Holland as Dale has decided to take a break for at least 6 months starting 1st Januari 2006.
We alle hope that after that break we will seeing you back in Holland

De Meijtuin Bed and Breakfast (Klaaswaal, Holland, near Rotterdam)

The Meijtuin Bed and Breakfast
Yes, we couln't resist! Dale Watson in Holland and not going there is e big NO NO!.
I had been writing to Gabe from the Newland Hotel to see if we could spend the night there, but others had beaten us to it. Unfortunately the hotel was completely booked. So I searched the net to see if I could find us another place to stay. After a few days and nights of scanning the net I came across this bed and breakfast (B&B) that was quite tempting. Only 700 meters from Newland and with a nice room and superb breakfast included in the price (off season for just € 50, 00). This B&B is run by a lady called Mrs. Kooijman.

I can tell you folks, if you ever need e place to sleep not far from Rotterdam and with the quietness of the country side, be sure to contact the wonderful Mrs. Kooiman and she will be happy to be at your service.

The rooms are in English style and have a nice double bed or two single beds, Cable- TV with international stations, coffeemaker, radio etc.
The wonderful gardens can be visited during the summer months at just € 2, 50 pp.

Front window

Normally you would not write about something stupid as a busted wind screen that needs to be replaced. . However this is a different matter. As my windscreen had a crack I had to have it replaced. As I have a SAAB 9000 I know this could not be cheap. So I just checked the internet and see if I could find a reasonable priced screen, then phoned around a bit.
Prices were really unbelievably. As much as € 520,00. Luckily I came across the site of AUTOGLAS (www.dk.nl). It is a workshop in Alphen aan de Rijn where they fit new screens, but also have a workshop where they make "tailor made" windscreens. The workshop is run by Bart and Menno.
They were really nice and helpful on the phone so that already gave me a good feeling about the place.
They could fit in the new screen next day, so I made the appointment and had my screen replaced. It took just a little less the 2 hours and while I was waiting for Menno to replace it, Bart showed me how he made new rear windows for a vintage Volkswagen cabriolet. He also showed me around the workshop an pointed out that the front window on the Pontiac was also made by him in his workshop.

The screen still not cheap but a paid for my screen € 318,92 including a cup off coffee and excellent service. A lot less then they would charge me at other big window replacing workshops.

So if you ever need a new windscreen I can recommend DK in Alphen aan de Rijn.
