How Richard made me go to visit a whorehouse
Visiting Fort Smith and how Richard made me go to visit a whorehouse
Just 15 minutes down the road of where Richard lives, is Fort Smith. There is so much history there that we just had to visit it. I came to pick-up Richard at 9:30 AM and we drove over.
For Richard it was many years ago that he had been there. That’s what happens when you live close to something historical. It has been there so long, it will still be there later, so often you don’t visit it.
When we came there Richard noticed that there had been quite some changes and that the visiting was so much better.
The entrance fee was just $ 4,00 each and we started with watching a movie explaining all about the military post and the famous ‘hanging’ judge Parker.
We spent the whole morning there and after that it was where Richard decided it was time for us to visit a whorehouse.
‘Miss Laura’s Social club’Just down the road there is a place called ‘Miss Laura’s Social club’. The name is inviting enough to go inside this wonderful constructed house. Richard advised me to go and see it as it has a special place in Fort Smith. Both in architectural as in historical sense. It is one of the seven social clubs that where built along the Arkansas River and the last one still standing.
It was saved from destruction and restored and if you ever go to Fort Smith you jut must go and visit this place.
The rooms are decorated and filled with beautiful clothes, it will take you right back to the 'good old days' when prositution still was a legal proffesion.
The guides are all volunteers and our guide was the wonderful lady, Druscilla. She has the same name of the wicked sister of Cinderella. She however was kind as kind can be!
